Our Expert Opinion
The vast majority of people who buy this style of circular saw, will do so mainly to do plunge cuts. As that is the case they will be used mainly in the construction trade, and especially by electricians and plumbers.
Plunge cuts are used to make holes quickly for things like electric light and socket fittings. They are also used for quickly cutting through floorboards to get access to water pipes and electrical junction boxes. And they are also used to quickly cut through plasterboard.
Now you can do these tasks with a normal circular saw, but this style of compact saw is better for one handed use. These are also lighter than your normal circular saw. A lot of buyers used this saw for trimming down doors. Quite a few used it to help lay flooring.

Most professional people will use a saw like this on the smaller jobs, to save them the time on setting up a larger circular saw.
We also liked the depth guide as that allows you to make cuts safely and we also found it to be really accurate. The laser guide does need a couple of batteries to get it working. It uses 2 x L1154 button batteries, similar to those that would be used in watches.
It also has a pipe where you can attach a dust bag or a vacuum, though it does not come with an actual bag.
The Worx WX427 also boasts a versatile design, allowing for both plunge and conventional cutting modes. With these features combined, along with its solid construction and ergonomic grip, this model undoubtedly sets itself apart as a reliable and steadfast choice for professionals seeking high-quality performance and durability in their power tools.
Our Verdict on the WORX WX427 XL Circular Saw
In our opinion, this is handy for doing some rough work, where absolute accuracy is not essential. The depth that you can cut is just a bit shy of 2". That is more than enough to get through floorboards, plasterboard, and even the tougher materials like metal conduit.
For us, it is basically a rip saw that allows you to make quick cuts, and get on with finishing a job. It is pretty easy to grip, light enough to use and comfortable enough when being used.
We also found it handy for doing a number of quick cuts, and even a quick bevel. It isn't a full blown circular saw though just be aware of its limitations.
