My review of using this mitre saw
I have a good friend Geoff who mainly buys WORX tools. I gave him a call about this one and he had bought one, so I asked him if I could come and have a look at it. I know that where possible, it is always better to get "hands on" with tools and use them. I also like to get an experienced user's thoughts as well.
My initial opinion is it is a good looking saw and what I would expect to see. With a battery attached (5.0AH) it weighed just under 10kg, so I could lift it and move it around. It could be carried to a different location, but moving 10kg around isn't something you want to be doing too often. That said, it's lighter than many other mitre saws I have used.
It is instinctive to use and the indents are easy to see and it rotates easily. The lever and start button are well placed and overall movement is easy, including the sliding mechanism. Geoff has been using the saw for about 2 months and he loves it. He told me he couldn't find anything to complain about, and believe me, he would tell me if he had.
The guard is good and you can easily see the wood, and the laser line is helpful, though we both like to cut to a marked line, but it would certainly help beginners. Geoff has it hooked up to his dust system and the line clears well. He did get a dust bag, but just has a better system in place.
We cut some 2"x1" and some 2"x2" and that took a second. He also had some 18mm MDF boards and I cut that, again with considerable ease. I made a couple of bevels on that and that works well.
In terms of run time it depends on the battery capacity and what type of material you are cutting. Geoff was using a 5.0Ah battery and was getting around 30 minutes cut time on average. That's pretty good compared to other saws that I have used.
The clamp is useful as well, easy to adjust and helps keep the hands free and safe. It's an easy to saw to use, setup and make adjustments and it cuts really well, though mainly that is down to the quality and condition of the blade.
Our Verdict on the WORX WX845.9 Mitre Saw
Tool Only
Price when reviewed £227.99
Just above we have shown this available as a tool only. If you don't already own a compatible WORX battery and charger, then you will also need to buy those. That will initially be more expensive. However, you can then use the battery and charger for other compatible WORX power tools.
For power saws I would recommend a 4.0Ah battery which I have shown below. They are available in different capacities, but you need a capacity of 4.0Ah or higher to get a decent run time.
WORX Power Share Battery
Price when reviewed £69.99
WORX Power Share Battery Charger
Price when reviewed £62.47
So the total cost to get started with the WORX cordless mitre saw is £227.99 + £69.99 +£62.47 which is a total of £360.45 at the time of writing this review.
Some UK buyers prefer the WORX brand and they do make an affordable range of power tools that are very good quality.

Comparison to Other 216mm Cordless Mitre Saws
I always like to make close comparisons to other brands of similar sizes saws. That gives you a much better idea of deciding if this one is good value for money. I have compared this to other brands that have 216mm cordless mitre saws.
Saws | Tool Only Price | With a 4.0Ah battery and charger |
---|---|---|
WORX 845.9 Cordless Mitre Saw | £227.99 | £360.45 |
Ryobi R18MS216-0 One+ Cordless Mitre Saw | £279.85 | £381.54 |
Makita LS002GZ01 Brushless 216mm Slide Mitre Saw | £713.88 | £791.69 |
Bosch Professional GCM 8 SJL 216mm Sliding mitre Saw | £385.64 | £484.64 |
That makes this 845.9 model compatible in price to the Ryobi saw and those brands have similar quality of products. The Makita one is much more expensive as it has a brushless motor and a higher quality build used by professionals. The Bosch model is about £120 more expensive, but again slightly better build.
The WORX option is I think good value for money, when compared to similar brands.
